Who is it for?

Are you a woman interested in learning how to build web applications with the latest technologies? We have good news for you: We are holding a one-day workshop for beginners! It will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2020 in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. To help you prepare, there will be an optional installation party on Friday, July 24, 2020.

We believe that the IT industry will greatly benefit from bringing more women into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn more about programming and build your first web application in a fun, supportive environment.

During the workshop you will build and deploy your very first Angular Web Application! Angular is an open-source platform for building web applications, developed by Google and the community. Angular includes various tools to easily create a dynamic, interactive app that can run on desktop browsers, mobile, and even robots!

To participate in the workshop you'll need some basic knowledge in web development including HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript or any other programming language. If you're a total beginner, here are some resources to catch up.

The workshop is free of charge for confirmed attendees. Just fill out the application form.

Don’t wait too long - you can apply to attend until May 30, 2020!
Note: You will get feedback about your application after May 30.

You are welcome to join the ngGirls meetup group to get informed about future events.

Of course! There are several ways you can help:

  • Mentors - you have a significant impact on the participants' experience. If you can volunteer at the workshop and give some support on the days before and after, we'd love to have you! You don't need to be an Angular expert - just a web developer. Call for Mentors
  • Volunteers - you help make the event run smoothly and successfully. If you can volunteer during the workshop or install party, we'd love to have you! You don't need to be a developer - just someone enthusiastic about supporting women in technology. Call for Volunteers
  • Sponsors - with your help we can make our events truly awesome! From providing meals, through funding transportation vouchers for qualifying attendees, to supplying cool ngGirls goodies - there are a lot of opportunities to help. Call for Sponsors
  • Anyone - There are many other ways to help us. We'd love to hear your ideas and/or assign you some chores. Huge thanks in advance!

How about you?

Do I need to know anything about websites or programming?

If you have some knowledge in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, you're ahead of the curve! If you are a beginner, we'll help you get up to speed!

Do I need to install something on my laptop?

Yes, you'll need Angular CLI installed before the workshop, but we wouldn't expect you to install anything on your own. Join us for the install & pizza party Friday night so that you're ready to hit the ground running for the workshop.

I'm not a woman. Can I mentor or volunteer?

Yes! Everyone is welcome to mentor or volunteer. We'd love to work with you!

I don't live in Kansas City, can I attend?

Of course! We're so excited you're interested! We expect groups of women from outside of Kansas City to drive in to join us. There are nearby hotels that can accommodate your budget and group size.

Is food provided?

Yes. Thanks to our sponsors, snacks and lunch will be served during the workshop.

Is there public transit to the venue?

Yes, downtown Kansas City has public transit options such as the streetcar and bus lines, but we recognize public transit doesn't serve all of the central metro area. We want to help you! If you don't have transportation, please email us.

Should I bring my own laptop?

Yes. We do not have hardware, so it is necessary that you bring your own computer. Furthermore, it is important that you are able to take home everything you write and create during workshops. If you have problems accessing a laptop, please email us.

I applied! When will I hear back?

Yay! You'll hear back from us after May 30, 2020 after we have a chance to review all the applications.
